Strategic Housing Consulting, LLC (SHC) is a housing and homelessness consulting company with a proven track record of success in providing strategic consultation to for-profit and non-profit agencies that lead efforts to end homelessness. SHC also provides on-going support to property owners to maximize profits on investments.
Strategic Housing Consulting (SHC) is owned and operated by Trevor Southwick, a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Policy, Administration, and Community Practice (PAC) from Arizona State University. Over the past decade, Trevor has held numerous critical roles in the housing and homelessness sectors within Maricopa County, Arizona. He not only possesses extensive expertise in housing, homelessness, and lived experience advocacy, but also demonstrates a passion for sharing this knowledge through the various community outreach opportunities he embraces. He has presented at numerous conferences, including the 2024 Health Equity Conference, the 2023 National Human Services Data Consortium Fall 2023 Conference, Arizona Coalition for Military Families 2023 Veteran Symposium, 2022 Arizona Housing Coalition Conference, 2021 ASU School of Social Work's 60th Anniversary series, and the 2021 Maricopa Association of Governments and ASU Regional Homelessness Capstone Event. Trevor has also been instrumental in spearheading initiatives aimed at implementing system-level improvements that enhance and strengthen the communities he serves.
Simply put, because of his unique personal experiences and unequivocal dedication to effective positive change, Trevor serves as the quintessential guide to navigating the nuances and complexities of the housing and homelessness sector. His research-driven approach to providing strategic consultation will continue to lead clients toward desirable outcomes.
2019-2023
Increased local non-profit agency’s affordable housing supply in a 4-year period by over 250 units through completion of LIHTC renovation on 90-units in 2019, a 77-unit LIHTC new development in 2020, a 36-unit expansion to existing project with braided funding streams using State and Federal Housing Trust funds in 2023, and 50-unit hotel acquisition for PSH conversion with ARPA funds through Maricopa County.
Prevented returns to homelessness for 90 residents in Permanent Supportive Housing following the discontinuation of their housing program by leveraging partnership with a local city municipality to secure and transition them into Emergency Housing Vouchers.
2024
Created national model through designing, implementing, and operating the largest, outdoor, structured campground for people experiencing homelessness in the country.
2025
Provided ongoing consultation to ASU for the development of statewide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for six key housing interventions funded by AHCCCS using Artificial Intelligence software that reflect the realities, challenges, and needs of those navigating housing instability.
